A photo illustration is a single,
or combination of composited, digitally altered, painted, filtered
and/or enhanced photograph/s used to illustrate a variety of media,
including, but not limited to books, magazines, newspapers, brochures
and advertising. A photo illustration designated as "stock" is
one that has been authorized by the artist for one-time licensing .
Purchasing a one-time license entitles the buyer to use the image for an
agreed upon use, for example in a weekly publication, for a
specified timeframe. Purchasing a license does not mean that the buyer owns the image, or is entitled to use the image for
any other purpose other than the one agreed upon between the buyer and
artist, or his representative. The artist always retains the
copyright to the original image/illustration. In special cases, such as our offer to provide users with FREE* web sized/small print stock photos and illustrations, an artist may grant a user a special license that outlines more extensive, liberal use of that image, providing the user agrees to terms as set forth by the artist. Please carefully read our Terms of Use, as these outline the licensing agreement and specific terms for usage of the FREE* images provided on this web site .[back]

Yes - this is what
"stock" is all about. The illustration, or image may be
licensed to a variety of sources for a variety of purposes. The
purchaser of a license is free to use the image, within the bounds of
the usage requirement agreement and agreed upon timeframe as he/she sees
fit. In other words, if a license for an image of a butterfly is
purchased the purchaser may choose to use the image to illustrate what a
butterfly looks like in a textbook, or perhaps in combination with other
images as an illustration for a cover sleeve of the book. The
restriction is that these specific usages must be negotiated and agreed
upon before the image is actually used. The advantage to the
purchaser of a license is that the license fee is generally less
expensive than the cost to hire a professional artist to create a custom
image to be used for a similar purpose. [back]
