About the Artist
Andrew
Neil Olscher is a professional Canadian artist and writer living near
Lakefield
,
Ontario
. His bold thickly textured,
acrylic paintings, photographs and digital prints have been shown and
purchased by private and corporate collectors and galleries locally and
internationally. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Queen's
University and was a scholarship winner to the Banff School of Fine Arts.
Andrew's trademark, colorful acrylic paintings,
digital art and photographs have been presented in
Toronto
as a part of
ArtCanadiana.com's "Group of Eleven", including noted
Canadian artists Ken Danby and Berge Missakian and one of
Asia
's finest watercolour
artists, Stephen Yau. Andrew's work was also exhibited at the "
Village
of
Hope
" in association with the
United Nation's conference on small island development in
Barbados
and at the Toronto
International Art Festival 2001. Over
the past ten years his work has also been exhibited in a variety of group
shows which have included such noted artists as Fred Hagan, Brent
Townsend, Michael Dumas, Toni Onley and
Canadian Art Partners.
In
June 2000 some of Andrew's digital works were featured in Silicon Valley
North's "Pixel This" section, "a showcase of some of the
best and most talented digital artists in the Greater Toronto Area."
In a departure from the free flowing style of his
canvasses and more in line with his detailed, digital prints, Andrew's
photographs depict a variety of subjects with stunning clarity and detail,
yet remain true to his artistic form and stylistic trademark of
brilliant, saturated colour. Andrew has travelled to

Mexico
, the
Caribbean
Islands
,
United States
,
Turkey
and
Greece
to capture some of his
spectacular images.
As a musician Andrew studied trombone with the
Canadian Brass and has performed with the Calgary Philharmonic Symphony
Orchestra, North York Symphony, Kingston Symphony, Toronto Korean Symphony
and
Orillia
's Leacock Brass. He also
appeared on several occasions from 1998 to 2000 as guest conductor with
the Apollo Chamber Orchestra.
As a writer Andrew's
commentaries and articles have been published by a number of local and
major, daily newspapers, including The Toronto Star, Ottawa Citizen and
The Globe and Mail. His work
has also been included in two different anthologies, along with works by
well known writers such as Robertson Davies and Michael Ondaatje. The
anthologies, entitled "Insights: Choices" and "Between the Lines"
were published by Harcourt Brace Canada and Nelson Learning, respectively.
