About the Artist

Andrew Neil Olscher is a professional Canadian artist and writer living near Lakefield , Ontario . His bold thickly textured, acrylic paintings, photographs and digital prints have been shown and purchased by private and corporate collectors and galleries locally and internationally. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Queen's University and was a scholarship winner to the Banff School of Fine Arts.

Andrew's trademark, colorful acrylic paintings, digital art and photographs have been presented in Toronto as a part of  ArtCanadiana.com's "Group of Eleven", including noted Canadian artists Ken Danby and Berge Missakian and one of Asia 's finest watercolour artists, Stephen Yau. Andrew's work was also exhibited at the " Village of Hope " in association with the United Nation's conference on small island development in Barbados and at the Toronto International Art Festival 2001.  Over the past ten years his work has also been exhibited in a variety of group shows which have included such noted artists as Fred Hagan, Brent Townsend, Michael Dumas, Toni Onley  and Canadian Art Partners.

In June 2000 some of Andrew's digital works were featured in Silicon Valley North's "Pixel This" section, "a showcase of some of the best and most talented digital artists in the Greater Toronto Area."

In a departure from the free flowing style of his canvasses and more in line with his detailed, digital prints, Andrew's photographs depict a variety of subjects with stunning clarity and detail, yet remain true to his artistic form and stylistic trademark of  brilliant, saturated colour. Andrew has travelled to Luxembourg , Germany , France , Italy , Mexico , the Caribbean Islands , United States , Turkey and Greece to capture some of his spectacular images.

As a musician Andrew studied trombone with the Canadian Brass and has performed with the Calgary Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, North York Symphony, Kingston Symphony, Toronto Korean Symphony and Orillia 's Leacock Brass. He also appeared on several occasions from 1998 to 2000 as guest conductor with the Apollo Chamber Orchestra.

As a writer Andrew's commentaries and articles have been published by a number of local and major, daily newspapers, including The Toronto Star, Ottawa Citizen and The Globe and Mail.  His work has also been included in two different anthologies, along with works by well known writers such as Robertson Davies and Michael Ondaatje. The anthologies, entitled "Insights: Choices" and "Between the Lines" were published by Harcourt Brace Canada and Nelson Learning, respectively.
